If you've used a golf cart to enjoy a round of golf in the upper midwest, you likely have the Ness family from Hendricks to thank. Hendricks is the home of N.B. Golf Cars, a family run business which is the largest golf car distributorship in the upper midwest.

Another Hendricks youth ready to use a Ness Brothers Golf Cart

Back in the 1960s, area resident Omer Ness was encouraged by friends to go golfing at the newly formed Lake Hendricks Golf Course. After playing just a couple rounds, Omer was sold on the game. However, a recent injury was making it very difficult for Omer to walk the entire 9 holes of golf.

Omer began looking for a used golf cart, but was having a hard time locating one. After a long search, he finally ended up buying one site unseen. When this golf cart did not meet his approval, Omer put it up for sale. Surprised by the amount of inquiries about the cart, he proceeded to purchase several American Continental golf cars from a dealer in Willmar MN. This was the start of what would become N.B. Golf Cars, the region's largest golf car distributorship.

On July 10th of 1972, Omer and his brother Joe purchased land from the Chicago and Northwestern railroad for their business. The brothers built a large building on the premise which was used to sell golf cars and snowmobiles. This building on the eastern edge of town is still the headquarters for Ness Brothers Golf Cars.

Initially, the Ness Brothers sold Cushman and Pargo golf cars in addition to the American Continental Brand. In 1975, the Club Car Company flew Omer to Augusta Georgia where he signed on as a Club Car distributor for Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, and parts of Iowa. N.B. Golf Cars was incorporated in 1988. In 1989, brother Joe Ness sold his interest in the company to Jim Ness, Omer's son. Omer's wife Eileen continues to be the company's bookkeeper. N.B. Golf Cars has continued to add employees throughout the years.
