Hendricks House, a modeled house in Singsas Norway

The original Hendricks house which was later recreated in Singsas Norway

The Hendricks landscape remains dotted with homes and farmsteads inspired by the homeland of its immigrants. However, one Hendricks home proved so poignant it inspired a duplicate built back on the Norwegian countryside. Known as the 'Hendricks House', the home has become legend back in Singsas Norway.

Back in the 1860s, Per and Kirsti Foros were busy raising 11 children in the Singsas Norway countryside. Some of the Foros children would later immigrate to the Hendricks area while the rest remained in Norway. Those coming to Hendricks quickly established themselves and built a beautiful home which still stands today. Three of the Foros children are in this 1920 picture taken outside the Hendricks Mn version of the home.

The model Hendricks House built in Singsas Norway

Inspired by the beauty of the home built in Hendricks, the remaining Foros family constructed a scaled version of the home back in Singsas Norway. Singsas Norway residents would soon come to know this home simply as 'Hendricks.' The home was built along the Gaula River opposite the original Singsas Church. Built to be 3/4's the size of the original, the home was deconstructed in 1987. In this undated photo, siblings Ingebrigt, Hans, and Enge join their father Per on their front porch in Singsas Norway. Both photos picture Per Foros, one of many that would visit both homes.

The Hendricks version of this house still stands today in its original glory. Located at 104 S Park Street, the home resides directly in front of the Hendricks public school. The home is currently owned by Brenda Beus. Former residents include Art and Julia Hexum, preceded by Leonard and Beulah Rottum.
